Former Ivory Coast president pleads not guilty at ICC

Former #IvoryCoast president Laurent #Gbagbo unleashed a wave of deadly violence targeting political opponents in a doomed attempt to cling to power after losing a 2010 election runoff, the International Criminal Court’s #ICC chief prosecutor said on Thursday as the court’s landmark first trial of an ex-head of state got underway. Gbagbo pled not guilty to four counts of crimes against humanity. He faces charges relating to the more than 3,000 people killed in the civil conflict that erupted after he lost elections in 2010. #News #Tjong_Alvares
