AFCON 2017: Egypt Celebrate Remarkable Return To AFCON Finals In Gabon

Published
Egypt have conceded their first goal of the competition but emerged victorious to secure a place in the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations. After a scoreless first half in Libreville Mohamed Saleh gave the Pharaohs the lead in the 66th minute. But Aristide Ban-say equalised for the Stallions in the 73rd minute, reviving their hopes of reaching a second continental final. Regulation and extra time would end in a 1-all draw, so the two teams moved to a shootout. Burkina Faso keeper Kouakou Koffi saved Abdallah El-Said's opening kick. But veteran Egyptian keeper Essam El-Hadary returned the favour against Koffi, before Bertrand Traore's effort was also saved. That sends Egypt into their ninth AFCON final. CGTN's Celestine Karoney has more from Gabon.
