The world is witnessing the highest levels of displacement on record, with an unprecedented 70.8 million people around the world that have been forced from their homes.
Among them are 25.9 million refugees, over half of whom are under the age of 18. There are also millions of stateless people who have been denied a nationality and access to basic rights such as education, healthcare, employment and freedom of movement.
Approximately 35 per cent of the world's forcibly displaced people worldwide are hosted on the African continent, and South Africa continues to receive the highest number of asylum applications in the sub-region.
The Commissioner for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) based in Geneva, Switzerland, Filippo Grandi, is with us this morning, to chat about his Southern African tour.
