Medical teams at eastern Libya's largest medical centre are treating suspect coronavirus cases as positive, after seeing an increase in the number of infections this week.
At the Benghazi Medical Center, a section called Alamal Tower has been dedicated to treating coronavirus cases.
Muhammad al-Qanashi, the director of the Alamal Tower, said the number of confirmed cases in the facility is currently 1,175 cases.
There have been weeks when the tower was so overcrowded that it had to close and not receive any new cases for several days, he said.
He added that several factors have led to the recent increase in the number of cases including indifference toward precautionary measures.
Social events and the reopening of wedding halls have also played a part in the increase, he added.
Al-Qanashi said the number of coronavirus deaths at the Benghazi Medical Center has reached 373.
The number of coronavirus infections in Libya has reached more than 57,000, with 801 deaths, according to a widely used tally by Johns Hopkins University in the U.S.
