Cote d'Ivoire's main zoo, which was nearly obliterated during its 2011 civil war, has become the basis of an unlikely effort to save Africa's most endangered crocodile. This newly-documented species of slender-snouted crocodile was discovered by an American scientist in the zoo itself, and an improvised breeding programme aims to snatch it from the jaws of extinction.
