Climate change dries Mali’s Lake Faguibine, displaces population

Published
Climate change is transforming Mali’s Lake Faguibine into a desert in the Timbuktu region.
The UN says more than 300 000 people have been displaced in the region.
Usable land for farming is becoming scarce, causing violent disputes between farmers and livestock herders.
In areas of Mali in which the state is largely absent, armed groups - including al-Qaeda - control access to arable land and water, giving it only to those who join their ranks.

Al Jazeera’s Nicolas Haque reports.
