Egypt's Plan To Cut Civil Service Numbers Met With Resistance

Egypt's labour unions are up in arms over a proposed law which aims to overhaul the civil service by not only cutting staff numbers, but also pegging promotions on performance evaluations, and not seniority. Unions, however, say the new law will cut their salaries, at a time when inflation is over 11%. Anger over the proposed reforms have led to one of the biggest civil service protests in Egypt in recent times.
