Ethiopia’s federal government says it’s withdrawn from the Tigray region to focus on threats to its Grand Renaissance Dam.
The second filling of the project dam is due to be completed this month but talks to reach an agreement with Sudan and Egypt have failed to produce results.
At their request, the issue will be discussed next week at an urgent session of the United Nations Security Council.
Ethiopia is also locked in a border dispute with Sudan, which has added to the tensions in the region.
