Last week, National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega submitted her response to President Jacob Zuma to explain why she should remain in her position. This followed a probe into her fitness to hold office based on the Marikana Commission's findings.
The position of the national police commissioner in recent years has attracted some controversy regarding the suitability of the incumbents. None of the last three came from the ranks of the police service. Dr Johan Burger from the Institute of Security Studies joins us from our Pretoria studio, to discuss issue
