Kenya: Descendants of freed slaves seek recognition

Published
The descendants of freed slaves in Kenya are seeking official recognition of their ethnicities, which are not registered.
Their ancestors were rescued from ships bound for Zanzibar following a British ban on the Indian Ocean slave trade.

Al Jazeera’s Malcolm Webb reports from Freretown in Kenya’s port city of Mombasa, where many of the freed slaves settled.
