Elephants, rhinos, lions — three of Africa's most iconic African mammals are regularly poached and prized for their bodies, which are used in traditional medicine. But none of them are poached or trafficked as much as the pangolin. It's possibly the most in-demand animal you've never heard of: the size of a cat, top speed of a walking human. But its scales are valued in mostly Asian traditional medicine, and each pangolin can be worth thousands of US dollars. During the last decade, they have been so heavily poached that thy face extinction on the African continent.
