Powerlifting is a relatively unknown sport in South Africa, it struggles to compete with the other traditional sports like rugby, cricket and football for recognition and lacks the funding it needs to grow, the biggest challenge facing powerlifters like Mathew le Roux is to get the backing in order to take the sport to new heights.
