Residents of South Sudan's Leer town in Unity State have started receiving food aid. This week, WFP carried out food drops as part of an Inter-agency rapid response mission. The mission has registered and assisted 14,000 people. It also provided a 30-day ration plus specialized nutritious fortified cereal to all children under the age of 5. Around one million people have been classified as being on the brink of famine in the country. The figure is expected to rise to 5.5 million. Famine was declared in parts of South Sudan this February. Aid agencies are urging for an immediate action to prevent more people from dying of hunger.
