A political solution appears to remain out of reach for Libya since the 2011 uprising that led to the overthrow and eventual killing of long-time ruler Muammar Gaddafi.

In the years that followed the toppling of Gaddafi, the North African country has been in turmoil. Libya continues to grapple with civil war, humanitarian crises, economic instability, and foreign intervention; leading some to question the 2011 foreign intervention that removed Gaddafi from power.
