Tanzania's opposition parties have called for fresh elections, a day after incumbent President John Magufuli was announced as the winner by an overwhelming majority.
Opposition parties denounced the results and called for mass protests from Monday. At a press conference today, the two main opposition parties decried the manner in which the elections were run and demanded the dissolution of the two bodies charged with running the polls.
President Magufuli was declared the winner with 86 per cent of the votes cast.
The ruling CCM garnered 253 out of 261 parliamentary seats.
Opposition Presidential candidate Tundu Lissu has called on the international community not to recognize the administration.
Regional leaders, including Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta, Uganda's Yoweri Museveni and Burundi's Pierre Nkurunziza have congratulated Magufuli on his re-election.
