Telkom-Airtel merger plans called off

The much anticipated merger between Telkom Kenya and Airtel Kenya has been called off in what Telkom Kenya CEO Mugo Kibati blames on challenges in securing approvals to complete the deal. Mugo now says Telkom Kenya would focus on consolidating its operations and tapping new opportunities created by investments in the data business. In light of the new development, Telkom Kenya is recalling workers declared redundant a year in anticipation of the merger.
