Zimbabwe has also extended its congratulations to South Africa, but Its participation in the 2022 games is in doubt. The country was suspended from Commonwealth councils in March 2002, following a politically violent presidential election. A year later President Robert Mugabe controversially withdrew his country from the Games in protest. Britain and Zimbabwe's relations are beginning to thaw, but there is no signal yet from Harare that it is ready to rejoin the Commonwealth.
